Install aftermarket performance parts - it's well known that installing things such as a K&N air filter, aftermarket exhaust systems, an electric fan, among other items, can help get better gas mileage.

Buy gas in the morning - gas is sold by volume and expands when warm. So fill the tank up early morning (dawn is the optimum time) when the gas is cold and dense. This way, when it warms up, it expands and you have more than you would have if you bought it warm.

Try high-octane (premium) gas - people have claimed that their mileage increased with premium gas - be careful because it costs more to purchase, so it may not save you any money in the long run.

Drive 55mph or the speed limit - the faster you go at those higher speeds, the more gas your truck consumes.

Don't use air conditioning unless you need it (this can be a big gas pig on some vehicles) - although in some cases (such as at high speeds), it can actually be a bigger drag on the vehicle if you have the windows open.

Carpool - this will definitely save on the gas bill

Or

Cut out the floor board on the drivers side and head down the street courtesy of your own two feet..

first off you can go to a 16 inch tire and rim,,this help,s a lot,,second,,if it,s the distributor type ignition,,you can advance the ignition timing 2 degree,s,,this will boost power ,,and performance,,third,,do,'t carry any unnecessary weight in it,,also if you will change the oil,,and switch to a good synthetic oil,,this will reduce friction in the engine,,and also help with mileage,if it,s high mileage have the timing chain and gear,s checked out,,after about 100.000 GM product,s wear the chain and gear,s pretty bad,,and this causes delayed timing,,and causes you to have to push the vehicle harder to get it to go,,the rest is in your driving habit,s,,and the quality of fuel that you are using,,this vehicle, wont ever be like a small vehicle,,but with some common sense you can make it do better than it does now,,good luck,,i have one working on it for a customer,,and this is some of the thing,s we are doing to help it out,,i hope this help,s you.

Take the local transportation much cheaper than the cost of gasoline and the insurance you have to be paying for that old fart of a vehicle.

trade it in for a crossover SUV like Toyota RAV4 or a Honda CRV you could get a Honda pilot if you trade it in the suburban.
or you make sure your car gets oil changes, has properly inflated tires, and change the air filter whenever it gets dirty however the maintenance will do a few slight improvements on your car's gas mileage
