From the feedback, I senced that most are ignorant about their reality. In the dream we feel, we see, eat, hit the wall, go to the bathroom, make love, and even fear and in some cases die. Still we cant realize thing unless we wake up. And by the way this same question was questioned by old muslims and this fact is nothing but a prove we humans know nothing in this life. God help us.

Since you can't prove that life as you know it exists--that is, since you can't even prove that the person next to you is real, since you could be dreaming them up and they could be saying "Yes, I'm real" in your dream--you can't prove that life is not a dream. That is, you would be proving it to others, and you wouldn't have proven in the first place that these others existed.

The best that Rene Descartes could come up with was, "Cogito, ergo sum," which translates as, "I think, therefore I am," meaning that the one thing he could "prove," at least to himself, was that he had thoughts...and therefore, since he had thoughts, he must exist somewhere (in a dream or real state, whichever).

But anyway, I would ask you: What does it matter if life is a dream or not? See, there is plenty about life that we do not understand--many mysteries, many layers of reality that we can but intuit. There is enough to explore without worrying whether you're making up the exploration.

When I am having a dream at night--which is a different reality, at least, from being awake, since I can't physically feel things that touch me in the dream and whatnot--I am basically along for the ride, engaged in the exploration. Things that seem fantastic or crazy to my waking mind seem perfectly ordinary to my dreaming mind. When I'm dreaming, I don't worry if it is real. I just live it.

So, if we are dreaming in our waking life (and doing some other version of living in our dream life), what does it matter if it is objectively real, if you can prove that it is not a dream? Why does proof enter into the equation at all? If life is a dream, there is no way to do anything about that--all we'd have is knowledge of yet another layer of consciousness. So instead of worrying about proving which "state" we're in, why not just ride it?

Get what I'm saying?

I can't. I can't prove that I'm dreaming about typing this message on the internet to a question that I asked myself. It is interesting. But we dont know if this is reality or not. It is kind of like the Matrix, what if we live in a world that is not real?

I don't like the tone of your question and have decided to just forgive you for the mocking and mean treatment of Vietnam Vets. I lived for three years in a bamboo cage on my knees. I was eventually released by a sweep that was done by the military. I am now permanently disabled and I used to be fabuloous ball room dancer. Ahh those days are all over. Remember to be kind and friendly to everyone online for you do not know who has served and been beaten by the Viet Cong while living as a prisoner. Thanks

Sometimes when I see the news on the Middle East and such, I believe it is a nightmare, but a dream never. I had a dream last night and have never heard of a dream within a dream. There is an old college song that went something like this:

Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream,
Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, life is but a dream...........

As I read through the answers to your question it is apparent that life must be a dream to many as they appear to be stuck in their own little nightmares.

I beg the question. Prove it is!

You can't....I've always wondered that maybe when we dream it's just a glimpse into the real world and that when we pass away we're really waking up to something that no on alive today has seen. I don't know....It's kinda cool to think about, though, thanks for the food for thought.

Try not to go to the bathroom (you know what happens when you dream about going LOL) :) Also just pray to God he will reveal ALL truth to you.

Here. Hold out your arm through the monitor screen and I'll pinch it for you. That way you'll know your not dreaming.

Chuang-Tzu once dreamed he was a butterfly. When he awoke, he no longer knew if he was a butterfly dreaming he was a man, or a man who had dreamed he was a butterfly.

Life is a dream.
