Fish dont sleep per se, but they can shut down half their brain while the other half does breathing and swimming.

yes they do. Whatch them at night when you lights are off. They settle to the bottom or float against plants or rocks. Sometimes they go to a certain place every night. Fish do not have eyelids. They go into a kind of trance. They continue to breath the same we do when we sleep, flexing their gills the same way we push our lungs, involuntary reaction. Watch them if you shine a flashlight on them when sleeping sometimes they startle sometimes they don't move they just stay zonked.

No way, Monet! Fish don't sleep! They rest, of course, but sleep? Never! How could they breathe?

yes but not all fish. sharks and dolphins can sleep even while they are swimming and hunting because part of their brain is still working. not all fish have eyelids so they might be sleeping but you cant tell.

Yeah, they do. When they are floating in the tank, that means they are sleeping.

(Though many people think they are dead and flush them in the toilet. Fish should really find a diffrent way to sleep.)

yes. Some even do it while they move. Some sharks for example have to move constantly so there is adequate water flow over their gills. They still sleep.

i read that sharks can't sleep because if they do, they suffocate. they have to be constantly movng to keep water flowing over their gills so they can get oxygen. i'm guessing all other fish work the same way.
