I have wondered about this man since first reading of him. More is there than is common knowledge. I would like to know more, so I might understand his reasoning behind some of the decisions he made in his life.

Hugh Hefner is a brilliant marketing man. Find the first issue of Playboy and read the articles. You'll see that the magazine is REALLY about his agenda and the women were there were only a ploy to get men to read his propaganda. Playboy magazine has never been about the women.

Roles of men and women changed after that time. In the 50s, when Playboy debuted, it was normal for a man to have a family and earn a living to care for that family. They were proud to do so. Don't believe it, ask your grandparents.
Then men began to hear from others that it was OK to have the things they wanted and have the woman, but without any ties of marriage. From then on, everything changed.
I don't agree with what Hugh believes in, but you have to appreciate that it was smart.

Hugh Hefner is a man who was at the right place at the right time and circumstances led him to a destiny that I do not think that he fully had envisioned. His story: A young, intelligent man, working as a copy boy for Esquire Magazine asks for a raise. Upon being refused he dares to dream of self-employment and taking a chance with starting his own magazine. He lucks upon the opportunity to get his hands on some nude photographs of Marilyn Monroe and targets a young male audience for his new magazine to be called Playboy. His decision to shy away from a family oriented magazine was unheard of at the time. He debuts in December of 1953 and sells out the 70,000 or so magazines that went to print. The Marilyn Monroe 1st Playboy capitulates Hefner and his magazine to sellout Esquire within five years. The rest is history.

I'm really kinda split on him.
On one hand he is charismatic, charming, smart, interesting, and fun.
On the other hand, you can't say he he isn't a perverted old man either. He exploits the women whether they think they are being exploited or not. They are just a a step above a prostitute, if that. If you watch the shows on cable (MTV)-the women are clearly prizes to show off to him.

Without judging him, I think he has a brilliant business sense even thought he uses women to make his millions.

I think good on him- if all those girls are stupid and shallow enough to sleep with a old man just so they can spend his money, more fool them !
