I am in the EXACT same situation...I have to add my wife to my insurance in the next two months, but the premium increase is gonna KILL me...and she is a stay at home mom cuz day care is just insanely priced. But Im gonna have to do whatever I have to do and make it work for the sake of my family.

First of all, just because they can't afford the insurance and you can, doesn't mean you should pay for it.
If they can't help, at least give them a deadline (Say 6 Months from now) by which you will stop paying their premiums. That way you are being generous but still firm. If she wants to drive, she will get a job by then.

This sounds like a problem your son and his wife need to work out. I know it's not easy to do, but you need to step back and let him make his own decisions as well as mistakes. They'll come up with a solution, just stay out of it. You don't want him to resent you if you meddle too much.

$400 isn't bad at all compared to having to pay thousands of dollars out of his back pocket if something should happen and he has no insurance.

There's always ways to compensate. It's his wife and he should be responsible enough to be abe to care for her.

Tell her to get a job, or if she has one tell her to get her own insurance in her company.
