To bring attention to a great cause, such as ending ethnic cleansing in specific parts of Africa.

Many times one powerful voice is all that's needed to bring a close to acts of major injustice :).

I think the ability and courage to use personal experiences as examples rather than just philosophic words and arguments, is very effective in getting a person's attention. I know that's what gets my attention. And you are certain to have more conviction in presenting things that you have experienced or know about first-hand....And although you might be tempted to think that your own experiences are very limited in comparison to some others, if you go deep, and really look at your own life and relationships, there are usually depths that you're not even aware of. I am convinced that every individual life is really an interesting story waiting to be discovered. So discover yours.

Also, treat people with charity in a debate or conversation. When possible, give their ambiguous statements the best possible interpretation or meaning--until they have a chance to further explain themselves. This requires an ability and willingness to embrace gentleness and humility in conversation. When people perceive that you are a person who gives respect, you are more likely to be able to use your knowledge, experience, facts...whatever...to persuade effectively. But first let them come to the place where they trust that you are being honest with them, and that you respect their free-will. After all, wouldn't you want the same?

Hoping the best for you....

The most effective persuasion comes from being sincere, open, truthful, and fair.

The most effective persuader is one who is willing to be persuaded by his opponent's aruguments when they are clearly better than his own.

Whose arguments are better and whose are worse is to a large extent a subjective judgement. And being fair in this judgement is what makes an effective persuader because it shows his sincerity and commitment to truth and fairness.

An effective persuader is one who avoids bias in his persuasions.
