Hey all.

I am a UK mature student, and I really want to study overseas for my second year. I can do this in either Europe, Australia, Canada or States.

I realy want to study in the States (I am doing fine art). If anyone in the UK has studied overseas please tell me the good, bad and ugly!

And if students/non-students could tell me which universities to avoid out of this list:

USA:
Appalachian State University
Cleveland State University
Illinois State University
Kansas State University
Michigan Technological University
Murray State University
San Diego State University
Towson University
University of Colorado, Denver
University of Maine
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Valdosta State University
Virginia Technology University

Australia:
LaTrobe University
University of South Australia

Canada:
Acadia University
Nipissing University
University of Calgary

Thank you all in advance!

:-)

Havent been to any of them, but I know that you being from the UK you wont understand what a US winter is like...stay away from Clevelan, Illinois, Michigan (good lord), Colorado, Maine, Wisconsin. The snow they get...and they are so used to it that a foot and a half will fall and you are still expected to get to work/school/...in virginia it will get chilly in the winter but it's generally mild...
good luck

Without knowing your major, I'd rank the US Universities in this order for academics

Virginia Technology University (This is a top American University)
Valdosta State University
Illinois State University
Kansas State University
Michigan Technological University
University of Colorado, Denver
University of Maine
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Cleveland State University
San Diego State University
Appalachian State University
Murray State University
Towson University

However for the American experience I’d rank them like this

Virginia Technology University
San Diego State University
Towson University
Valdosta State University
University of Colorado, Denver
Illinois State University
Kansas State University
Michigan Technological University
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Cleveland State University
Appalachian State University
Murray State University
University of Maine

San Diego State isn't a great school for fine art. If you want to study in San Diego for fine art, you should look into UCSD, not SDSU. Here, it's called Visual Arts. I go to UCSD and their Visual Arts program is good. I'm not a Visual Arts major, but I used to be. I would definitely go there before SDSU. However, the school is very large, competitive and isolating. It's a commuter campus & housing around the area is extremely expensive. So, unless you've got deep pockets, I'd look elsewhere. The different state schools are San Diego State University (SDSU) or University of California San Diego (UCSD). Good Luck!

None of those (the ones in the US) are first-rate school so you may want to consider location and type of study as part of your decision.

Supposedy San Diego is a fantastic city, Colorado is supposed to be a beautiful place, Cleveland's not bad.

I can tell you that U Maine is quite nice. The campus in Orono is very pretty and mainers are generally very nice.
Stephen King graduated from there and on a not so impressive side note..so did my cousin.
