In general, if you can afford it, I would stay way from Dell laptops. I have seen too many friends run into problems with them. The IBM (now Lenovo) ThinkPad is much more reliable, unfortunately (but perhaps not unrelatedly) it is more expensive.

Yes, it is...make sure you get a configuration you'll be happy with. Consider what you'll be using the system for...gaming, video editing, etc.
I'm trying to decide between the Dell E1705 and the Hp dv8000t myself.
