no advantage if you have money to spend on cable or DSL. it was good in old days when dialup was around 25.99 a month and people were not willing to spend that much amount of money.
other advantage was with dialup you cant use a phone, so you can go online cache some pages with work offline feature then release the internet connect and surf.
browsing experiene will be a lil faster as well because you are using your computer cache to browse when you are offline.

so if you are not living in middle east and you have a cable or dsl then there is no point on having work offline feature.

Usually people work "offline" only because they are at a location where they do not have Internet or network connection, but still need to get stuff done.

Working offline can also be done if you have an extremely slow Internet connection. You dowload the page(s) you want to see and then view them offline.

Probably no spam is no 1! Then depending on what you mean by offline, if you are on dial up PC connection, it is cheaper than being signed on as you go say to compose email etc, then dial in to send

Some people find that helpful in order to concentrate on their work. That is, when they are online, they get distracted too much.
