On a global scale Women have it harder then men by far, especially in many third world countries. Things are much harder for them as in those countries it is male dominated. If you think life was rough for women before the 1900s in the US, many women globally have it much worse, with daily abuses (of many kinds), and forced uneducation of females (all the while expected to raise families and provide for the men).

In the 1st world countries I would say it is an even split. In many cases I think that Girls make life much harder on themselves then life really needs to be. So many times they, feel that they have to look a certain way and that is quite frankly a choice that they make. Girls should try to be them selves more rather then be adicted to 'the look' or what modern culture says they need to do or be.

It's not easy being a girl, but I'd much rather be a girl than a man. I find that my responsibilities are not too challenging and are things I can handle. I work for self fulfillment. I'm free to be silly when I want, I can be a big sooky on days I don't feel well.I feel very free being a woman. A man is expected to shoulder so much more responsibilities...to be family leader, breadwinner, spiritual head. Not my thing. Glad I'm not a man.

Depends on the culture. In most of the world, girls have the most limits on their opportunities and freedoms, and the most to fear from tradition. But in Western countries, it's rapidly changing, giving girls the advantage over boys. Education is geared towards girls, encouragement, government help, scholorships, awards and recognitions, are all aimed far more at girls than boys. Society now applauds strong women, but calls strong men 'chauvenistic' and 'neanderthal'. Men in western society are far more restricted than women in how they can dress, how they can act, what their interests can be, and how they can interact with the world.

Men work longer, die sooner, get cancer at 4 times the rate of women, get negative treatment from teacher 75% more then females, are more likely to be murdered by spouse and have spouse get off or probation, more likely to be executed if commit a crime, and have to listen to women complain about how hard they have it on top of every thing else.
