Swimming is good exercise and it puts very little stress on joints. Sometimes people with injuries who can't do any weight-bearing activities will exercise in the water.
If you swim in a chlorinated pool be aware that you are absorbing a lot of the chemical through your skin. Some pools are staying away from chlorine now.
Public pools are not always clean and they get used as toilets unfortunately so you can get sick.

Advantages:
As said before this exercise targets muscles other exercises do not, it also works ALL muscles at the same time, and with the boyancy because of the water, stress due to weights is minimal. You can decide which muscle groups to target for the exercising you want to do, cardio-vascular, biceps, quads, etc.
Disadvantages:
Drowning
Possibility of getting sick due to water contamination

Advantages: Targets muscle-groups no other sports can target. Positive effect on the whole body. No over-stressing of joints. Good control over the amount of effort you put in.

Disadvantages: You need a pool, you get wet, you can drown. If you are to sensitive to chlorine it is not for you.

A MAIN disadvantage that no one is saying is that if you are doing it for exercise, you are not putting any stress on your bones/joints. Now, A LOT of stress isnt good, but you need a moderate amount to build your bones. If this is your sole exercise, you will be more prone to osteoporosis and other bone diseases. You need impact on your bones! (But it is a great cardio!) Just mix it up!

Advantages:
Great Aerobic exercise
Maintain health and weight
Heart pumping is good.
Dis advantages:
If want to swimming, we have to go swimming pool,unlike if I want to go for jogging, I can do anywhere anytime.
WE need to undress, offcourse with underwear,
Need to know swimming,otherwise! unlike in walking or jogging ,
No risk.

There are not disadvantages in swimming. But only profits healthwise.
