Not as much as you should be proud of your heritage. How you look is just a product of what your ancestors needed to survive their environment (and gifted by God, if you will), but it's what they passed on that's important. Celebrate your history, your values and your culture and be very proud of your people, but not to the point of placing them above every other race. In the end, we *are* all fellow human beings.

What is to be gained by separation? Only one thing can come from being proud and that is hate. Pride can be a good thing but we allow it to over take everything. what is so important about what race we are. I know we are taught that our race is our history it is our roots and we should be proud of that. And I say if that was the only case then that would be OK, but it isn't once we become proud we feel the need to make it even stronger and to do this we as human feel the need to make all others seem weaker so we try and crush them under our own race. We have wars that proves this. If we reverse this what have we gained? well we have gained peace and understanding we prevent wars because now we are more compassionate and you know what we still have our race because nothing can change that.

Dude, there's a reason why pride's one of the seven deadly sins.
If you wanna be proud of your race, fine, I won't stand in your way (even though I am of the opinion that there is only one race: human). But when that pride escalates into hatred and intolerance of people of other nationalities, that's when it becomes a problem.
So, be proud of your own race, but be appreciative of others as well, and see them as fellow human beings at the same time.
EDIT: Methinks you're confusing "race" with "culture." Just because someone shares your skin color doesn't mean they're the same kind of people.

We can be proud of our own race without making others feel as if they are not equal. We ARE also a human race as a whole. It's just hard for a lot of people to get past skin color and differences in culture and tradition. When we accept each other as human we'll be in a better society.

Race is an outmoded way to "classify" humans.
It really never suited humans to separate any into "discrete" races.
Races do not really exist. Cultures exist, but there is only one "race" and that's human.
Birds are of various "species" that is different, there are birds suited to water, or land, desert, snow... various "species" of bird to various environments and types of foods found in those environments. But they are all Birds .. so the "race" is bird.
In humans there is only one "race" but different "cultures". Not "species" because we are equally suited to all environments.
That's the difference.

I agree with long_ebony_locs:
"We should be proud of who we are in ADDITION to seeing others in the same light as we see ourselves."
To deny our race is to deny millenia's of evolution that has shaped who we are. But to deny other races is to deny humanity altogether.
