When he was first born, he'd have a poopy diaper six or seven times a day. He's now five weeks old, and he only has one a day, but it's a LOT! Is this normal?

He's only getting breastmilk.

SO normal - and one of the perks of breastfeeding! My daughter would often go several days with no bowel movements - once an entire seven days. I asked the pediatrician and he said that as breastfed babies get older this often happens because there is simply 'no wasted food.' You'll save on diapers!!! $$$

Best wishes!

Yes, this is pretty normal. My two year old only makes poopy an average of once a day, and sometimes only twice. My four year old daughter was the same way for a while, now her bm's are more often. If he doesn't seem to be complaining or his bm's are nice and soft, not hard like he's constipated I think he'll be fine.

However, if you still have questions, you should consider asking your child's pediatrician.

It is normal.. most babies get that they're digestive system is getting used to it and at times the pop can be dark green or black at times... and it also depends what are you feeding him... what ever the case may always contact your doctor don't wait 'till an emergency happen just call and ask proffesional help is always better. Oh and another thing most babies from 0-9months tend to poop a lot and some of them poop all over the place like to their backs it's grose.

Yes, very normal. In fact, a fully breastfed baby may go several days (up to 2 weeks) between bowel movements--it is *still* normal. As long as when he passes it, it is soft and huge, it is not a sign of a problem.

I had a baby who routinely went a week between bowel movements; one time she went over 2 weeks (and when she and I were traveling outside the country!!), but it was normal for her at that time.

Once your baby starts solids (they usually need that between 6 and 12 months), he will probably have at least one a day.

Yes, this is very normal. As a baby grows, his bowel movements lessen. Check "What to Expect the First Year" by Arlene Eisenberg, Heidi E. Murkoff, and Sandee E. Hathaway, B.S.N.

Also, if you are still in doubt, don't hesitate to contact your baby's pediatrician. They are used to these kinds of questions, and honestly, that's what they're there for. l

it's totally normal the thick mustard poop lasts as long as your only breast feeding and to add to it your baby can go up to 8 days without a poop and be fine both of my children did and my son is still doing it (his only 6 months) as long as your baby wets their diaper at least 4 times a day your baby is fine.

Babies bowel movements change as they get older, and seem to go less often. Long as the baby doesn't cry and pull his legs up as if in pain he should probably be alright. I would just give the Doctor a call to make sure.

Do you poop 5 or 6 times a day??? Unless something's pretty seriously wrong, then no. So why should your child? It just means that his digestive system is getting used to the flow of things and is regulating itself.

In respond to your stupid comment, I would have to say yes. I don't think I see you going to the bathroom six or seven times a day. Thank you for the stupid question, it is like asking why older women go to menopause after getting their period every month in their youth.
