The Golden Retriever is the sweetest natured family 'dog' to own and the safest... though not a good guard dog, because it is too friendly.
As for other animals, I wouldn't really know about them all, but the Guinnea Pig must rate very high... they are the least likely rodent to bite, I've owned and bred and let my children have them too, everyone was sweet natured, and they loved to be cuddled.

The Chickadee very friendly bird and can be easily tamed in the wild, or maybe even mice, I saw a wild mouse one time pick up its baby just like a human, then it carried the baby away in its mouth, also you can tame them easily and I used to get the wild deer mouse I caught to drink water droplets off my finger.

Gorillas.
Watch the famous clip of David Attenburgh with the wild gorillas, it's really humbling to see such a massive creature being so soft with a human.

I think it's a foal if we're talking baby animals. As far as adults go I would say it was a Springer Spaniel (mental but sweet!!!!)

Labradors. And they have more personality than golden retrievers, they aren't such picky eaters and are less prone to health problems.
