I live in NH. it's pretty far from the major transport highways. I get no reception at all. The FCC's regulations are confusing. I know that you can't put a antenna up too high. I'm wondering the maximum size and what wire gauge I should use. Like across my roof in a web like pattern.

My CB is tuned and Perfectly sound.
But wont the resistance of the wire hinder the capibilites of transmission?

First of all, I would get it to a radio shop. I can't remember if there are any at that truck stop on I95. But you could check that out. Get it peaked and tuned first of all. You can also buy amplifiers for your antenna. I would look online. I don't think radio shack sells these.
Hope this helps.

There is no FCC rule or regulation prohibiting the increase of the reception range of your CB. The rules prohibit increasing the output power when transmitting (4 Watts measured at the output of your connector on the CB radio. There are any number of ways to increase the reception range of your radio. Antenna height is one. Increasing the amount of "metal" you are hanging out for an antenna. More wire means an increase in the amount of radio waves captured by the wire. Multiple-element antennas placed at the correct intervals can help. There are several types of antennas available, Yagis, Log-Periodic, Quads, Long-Wire, etc. It might help to visit the ARRL website or purchase one of their Yearbooks.

receiving can be increased legally several ways, at least a couple. Raising the antenna (FCC regs no more than 20 feet above the structure) some people have put in in a tree. Use of a pre amp to boost receiving power is OK but you would not be able to transmit over it as that would be illegal. What part of New Hampshire? near the seacoast? familiar with channel 8?

Where I live I have the right to put my antenna a maximum of 100 feet in the air. It seems to help on reception as well as transmission. Check your local laws on this. You could probably find out this information from your local fire department or police station. Good Luck!
