Your draining your source of power.. your battery.. tighten your fan belt or have it replaced and secure all cables under your hood. something else may be causing the problem.

When you have the a/c on, it puts a extra strain on the engine anyway, but with the symptoms you are giving, it sounds like the IPS, ( Idle Speed Sensor) is faulty. This sensor monitors engine idle speed and adjusts depending on the engine load, such as your a/c being on or having it in drive. also, you saying it idles rough in park but not in neutral is another sign of the sensor. when in park, your engine receives a very very slight or almost non noticable drag from the torque converter where it can't spin the trans gears, but when in neutral the drag is eliminated and it can spin the trans gears freely . Have it checked at your dealer or a reputable repair facility that has the equipment to diagnose computer fault codes. Nightfox says that you have a a/c problem which is not true. You have a idle problem and it shows up when the load is put on your engine. I am 100% sure that your problem is related to that IPS What it is supposed to do is when you turn on your a/c the sensor increases the engine idle rpm's to smooth out the the strain the a/c puts on the engine at idle. All a/c systems create head pressure when the compressor starts turning, If you had a blockage in your system, pressure would build up to a point that it would overheat the compressor due to the lack of circulation, and possibily seize it up. I have lost count how many times I have seen this problem.
P.S. A big THANK YOU for your service in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Well the first place I would start is checking the vacuum lines around the egr valve to make sure you didn't move any and you can do this by taking some carb cleaner while the car is running and spray it over the lines if there is a vacume leak the engine will race if you have nothing there then I would check with your tune up, sounds like when you are putting a load on it at idle it is straining

The A/C puts an added load on the engine. Most cars have a solenoid that kicks up the engine idle when the A/C is turned on to compensate for the increased engine load. Have a mechanic you trust check the engine R.P.M. without the A/C off, and then again WITH the A/C on. There is a specification for R.P.M. with the A/C on @ idle. If your engine R.P.M. is low, the mechanic can turn it up to specification, and that should solve the problem.

The A/C system is probly getting what is called a head pressure which makes the compressor work very hard to pump freon in turn making it harder for the engine to work. Ive had this problem on my vehicle and I see it all the time. I am an Air Conditioning specialist. I would definatly take it to an AC shop. You could have a condensor fan out or some type of restriction in the system. I am 95% sure this is your problem. Anyway good luck and thank you for your service to our country.

Bearings in AC compressor maybe going bad causing bog down when load is put on compressor?
Plugged up air box, rat nest or what not under the air filter. AC gets kicked on it needs to draw more air, due to blockage it is unable to so it bogs down?
Dirty air filter for same reason above.
Wrong EGR valve installed or installed backwards?
Mass air flow sensor going out or damaged when cleaning intake and butterfly regions?
Belt on AC unit hung up or tensioner or pully going bad?

idle speed too low so the extra drag of AC unit is making it sound rough (maybe a faulty AC unit?). the transmission oil/filter probably needs changing

Yup I know exactly what it is. It's the fuel pressure regulator. Might be in the tank though. (outsource) Semper Phi brother!
