you have to restart your ipod to factory settings.. my ipod used to do that all the time. hold down the middle circle button and the menu button at the same time for a few seconds, and it should restart. it takes all your songs off, but at least it will work again.

1. Make sure its charged. if its not, charge it.
2. Make sure the hold switch is off
3. Try turning it on (which is pressing the play button if you didnt know)
If nothing works, it may be defective. Has it turned on before? If it never turned on, exchange it. If it has turned on before, call or email Apple.
