The peritoneum is two layers of a flat tissue called mesentary. Between these two layers is the peritoneal cavity. In this cavity lie the majority of your intestines, and if a structure lies in the peritoneal cavity it technically is not in the abdominal cavity. Now there are some structures that are behind the peritoneal cavity, and then they lie in the abdominal cavity. The pancreas, and kidneys, and those lymph nodes are in the abdominal cavity. The reason those lymph nodes are mentioned is bacause they are enlarged as something is going on. Along with the lesion on your liver points to something potentially very serious. The fact that you have had the MRI means you were already under medical care and I would strongly suggest you continue. It may be something less serious or it could be cancer, best to find out and properly treat before it is too late.

It means you most likely have an infection of some type. The lymphatic system is like a storage facility for defeated germs. When you are battling an infection these nodes get overloaded and swell. You should've asked the doctor for more info before leaving the office. This is often hard to do because the doctor is in and out quickly and many times you don't think to ask until later. If you stop and think you'll probably come up with the answer of what has made you sick. Any virus' going around work or school? Any relatives with mono or strep-throat? Ever had the mumps and were recently exposed? Was that creepy person on the bus with the disgusting hack setting closer than you were comfortable with? You've probably just picked up a nasty bug so calm down and have a big bowl of chicken soup and take comfort in the fact that you can call into work/school sick and have a doctor backing you up on it.

You should have had a doctor who ordered an MRI to be done in the first place, as one does not generally walk into an MRI and ask for one without a doctors orders.

Lymph is a clear fluid that travels through your body's arteries, circulates through your tissues to cleanse them and keep them firm, and then drains away through the lymphatic system.

Lymph nodes are the filters along the lymphatic system. Their job is to filter out and trap bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, and other unwanted substances, and to make sure they are safely eliminated from the body.

lymph node
(limf node)
A rounded mass of lymphatic tissue that is surrounded by a covering of connective tissue. Also known as a lymph gland. Lymph nodes are spread out along lymphatic vessels and contain many lymphocytes, and act as a filter system for the lymphatic fluid (lymph).

MEN and WOMEN have 'abdominal retroperitoneal lymph nodes'

You should consult the doctor immediately. In the abdomen many organs are covered and kept in a bag the peritoneum but some organs (like kidney) and lymphnodes lie behind this sac and are so called Retroperitoneal.

There is probably some lesion in your liver that has spread to the lymph nodes.

Check with your doctor.
