Yes. We put it in a portable pond. My dog loves the taste of the water.

It is an edible tuber,

Here is a recipe my sis always makes:
wrap water chestnuts with bacon, stick a toothpick thru to hold
to hold on the bacon
Bake 350 for 40 minutes
taste great
