I know, but it's not called a pair of shirts and their are two arms.

I know it derives from a french word, & that's it. [as I read about "pantaloons" (pants) the other day, but can't for the life of me remember why or exactly what it said) Look at it this way: Pants (2 legs), & Rolaids (2 mints in one), & sunglasses (2 lenses), all have one thing in common. They are 2 of something rolled into one!

because in both cases the pants and the glasses consist of two parts (two legs, two glasses to look thru). now don't ask me y a t-shirt isn't called a pair of shirts (on account of having two sleeves) etc, etc... it's another one of life's mysteries...

maybe because they are used to cover a pair of items. pants cover a pair of legs, glasses cover a pair of eyes, etc.

they are a pair b/c they are two things like glasses their are TWO LENSES not one and pants their are TWO PANTLEGS without the two they would not be a pair.They would be 1 instead of 2.

well with pants, there are 2 pant legs, its easier to say a pair of jeans/pants than a pair of pant legs lol
and same with glasses, there are two focal glasses, therefore "a pair" of glasses.

My guess is there are two halves to each. Two legs on the pants and two lenses on the glasses.

you have two eyes. two legs.so together it's a pair of pants b/c you have a pair of legs. and a pair of eyes.
