Try using Tor.
A great open source project that let you encrypt all your Internet communication for free, even your isp cant look at what you do on the web with Tor.

In order to surf the Net anonymously, you can use proxies -- computers that shield your IP address and forward the request for web-site you wanna go to on ur behalf.
You can try web-based proxies like browseatwork.com or download a program called Tor from EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation). Be advised that using Tor will make ur surfing a li'l bit slower.
Also try Googling for anonymous proxies.
Also, use Firefox browser which has an option of cleaning up your data after u've done surfing the web.
As for encrypting ur email communications, try PGP (Pretty Good Privacy)...also regarding this, I would like you to know that unless there is a dire need for encrypting ur emails, don't do it...'coz if u r in US, and u encrypt ur emails, u might raise a red-flag with the Feds (Federal govt. agencies) and they might start trailing ur communications (I am not saying that they might not be doing it right now, just a point).
Hope this helps and good luck!

A NAT firewall will still use your basic ISP assigned IP address.
Signup for an anonomizer service - but remember that if you are in the US the Government has taken upon itself the desire to trace everyone and remove the ability to hide.
Like the Borg... resistance is futile...
