Let me tell you your wrong these poor kids do and learn more now than I did in school. Have you ever spent a day in school with your child NOT ON DAYS THEY HAVE PARTIES They get no break not even in lunch they have to read there too. Not only do they have to find the right answers they have to explain them and how they got the answer. My son gets out of school at 3 and has 2 hours of homework afterward. Let me tell you I don't get have the stuff he does so it is not easily to help him. The children have to pay more attention in school cause there parents have NO CLUE HOW TO HELP THEM> Testing in NY state is awe full every 10 weeks every subject then dbq anyone know what that is or the ela know what that is during the time for the elas and the ema my son had to stay after school 3 days a week for an hour and a half to prepare. My son doesn't stay in one class he goes from teacher to teacher in the 4th grade I feel it is harder now!

people's lives have been changed in many ways through the development of technology. The progress in technology enables us to live without any difficulties. As far as I am concerned, life today is better than it was in my grandparents' childhood for the following reasons.
First of all, I think that technology has benefited us. The development of computers and Internet has influenced people a lot. People can buy many things on the net instead of shopping in a real shop. It is also easier to get information from the Internet. For example, I like to find answers in the net for my daily problems all the time. Students write reports and do research with computers. Moreover, people use various digital devices to make their lives more convenient. I think that modern technology contributes greatly to our quality of life.
With the advancement of transportation, people live in a more convenient life. People used to travel abroad by boats before airplanes were invented. According to a research, the airplane is safer and more comfortable than the boat. On the other hand, the car plays an important role in our life. People cannot move too far by walking or riding a horse. For example, when my grandfather was a child, he took two hours to walk to school everyday. If his family has had a car, he would not have spent so much time on commute.
In conclusion, given the reasons described above, I think we live in a better life than out ancestors. Thanks to the development of technology, our life is more convenient. In addition, we are healthier because the medicine is advance.

If only that were the case...The truth is, today's children have it much harder than those who attended school in prior to the mid-Seventies. These days, there is so much emphasis on exams that kids are stressing out plus they know they have to be better than better if they are to find a job in an employment industry that is low on jobs. With all that, they have to cope with the fact that life today is not only more stressful but also more dangerous than in previous years with peer pressure being a major concern.
I'd have loved to have been a kid in the Sixties when childhood was more carefree, kids didn't have the pressure to grow up before their time and you knew you were almost guaranteed a job when you left school.

In some ways, sure. Overall, I don't think so.
Information is more easily available than for earlier generations. Current kids tend to have more entertainment available than in the past, and probably on average have less chores to do. Also on average more money is available, so they have more "stuff".
But kids now have way too much to do in organized activities, rather than having a lot of free time. And there are many decisions they have to make (drugs, alcohol, sex) when they are very young, much earlier than previous generations who were usually older so maybe more prepared to make decisions like these.
All in all, a kid 50 or so years ago probably had it better than today's kids. "Happy Days" isn't just a TV show.

As an African American, I can honestly say that a modern child have it a lot easier than our parents. primarily because in the south the education was different and most of our parents had to fight for a decent education. Taking race out of the picture, it is still easier because of technology. everything one needs can be found on a computer. it makes us lazy for example, we do not learn to spell; we use spell check. we do not go to the library, we have google, Jeeves, and wakipedia.

I don't know if we have it easier. I mean they got their butts beat if they did somethign wrong or stupid. And the curiculum was the same not matter what learning disability one had. However, our parents could graduate high school and go out in the real world and find a great job with out a college education. In today's society we need a degree but still cant find that great of a job.

first of all i honestly believe that if ones parents worked hard for 30. years then their children should only work Hard for 20. Yes i agree it is certainly more comfortable, but bottom line it is not easier. There are so many more distractions. Remember the children of today and the future would certainly be WISER but WEAKER. Think about it. They ARE.

Absolutely!!! And it is unfortunate for us and our children that discipline in the school is basically a thing of the past. The parents now a days don't and/or won't discipline and the schools aren't allowed. And they wonder why we have so many Juvenile Delinquents.

I think the technology has made information and education much easier and there are more opportunities but I think this might sometimes also create more stress.
