Take the car to your dealer and have them to test the system. They will be able to diagonse the problem If it does turn out to be the computer or ECM, (Electronic Control Module) If the car is worth it, have it replace with a new unit, do not take handyman's advice and get one from a salvage yard. you could get someone else's headache and usually at a salvage yard, you buy parts there "as is, no returns". and chances would be that it wouldnt work anyway. When you get in to parts like that, it has to be "matched" to that car. Each car now has a calbriation number that has to be used when replacing electronic components and sensors.

How is it running? My check engine light has been on for most of the last 100,000 miles I have put on the car. I got a code and checked all the parts in that emission control system. They all checked all right. I read that for the year in area of 1995-1996 that sometimes you cannot get the light to stay out because of poor engineering (mediocre leeway in the tolerances). This is a model year that the standards were changing drastically. Some cars made it off the assembly line OK but were somewhat marginal after. Don't dought that some on the line were marginal too.

Sounds like the diagnostic side of the pcm is burned out, if the car has been checked by an obd II pocket scanner sometimes they short out the diagnostic center of the cars pcm Advance Auto parts had a real bad problem with theirs' doing that to alto of cars and now some cars they won't check for people because of that. The best thing to do is go to the dealership and have them check it out there computer can override what the obd II scanner did and if it did burn out your pcm don't let them put a new one in it, it will cost to much just go to the salvage yard and get one.
