A book report is usually a summary of the book's plot and devices. A critique is your opinion and your analysis of the book. Does the book deal with issues to which the reader could relate. Did you find it realistic, overly dramatic, slow moving, lacking in any real meaning, etc. What impacts do you think the book will have on our time? What influences was the author under when he/she wrote it (context). Critiques are usually more professional and analytical, where as book reports are more straightforward and elementary.
