Tuck it away where it won't get damaged. Right now it isn't worth much more than face value, but it may be valuable to your grandchildrens grandchildren.

Good luck with your heirloom silver dollar.

The first two answers were right on.

1974 is worth about $2.00 but a dealer will only buy it at $1.25-$1.75.

The silver version is 1974-S and yes you have to check the edge to see if it is silver. The "S" would be located above the date if nothing is there it is a regular coin.

The price of copper, nickel and silver are going up so I would hold on to the coin any price jump would be only $0.50.

A 1974 silver doller is worth a dollar. They are not the high content silver like the silver dollars from the eirly sixties. Unless it is a proof coin it is worth a dollar.

if it's real silver it's worth more, look at the sides if you see a cooper color on it then it's not real silver,if it's all silver color then there a good chance it's real silver, but ether it's worth $2.

Maybe you could get $2 on line but a coin dealer wouldn't pay that much. $1.25 to $1.50 if it's in good shape.
