I could really use some clarity here. I moved to Ca 1.5 years ago from washington state due to having so many challenges with outgrowing the place on some level, the mold getting me sick and then the ceiling cracking. I had dreams about moving to california at the time and yet much confusion was going on. I have grown so much since then and have come to a place in my life where I would like to meet genuine, loving, health conscious people being a vegan eater. I feel very very lonely in this state as it feels too superficial for me and too big and way to citish. I am use to smaller communities & nature. I love the land in Oregon, yet it was hard at that time to make connections as well. After listening to two bands at the getty museum yesterday, it became so apparent to me that the first one being unknown & so connected to GOD was more me then the one that was famous and so popular..the second had more ego. I choose to be in a place that is smaller & where I can make REAL loving friends

you might have a little trouble finding areas with a lot of vegans if you're not on one coast or the other, but that doesn't mean that they aren't health conscious people. they just don't look at things the same way you do.
you likely wouldn't be happy where I'm living now, as it is totally beef country - but everything else would probably fit you well.
I'd suggest that you look into some parts of Kansas, eastern edge, and Tulsa might be a great spot for you, too. Minnesota is another option. I've lived and or visited many places in our country - and grew up in Washington state myself - lived in the beach area of Los Angeles for 20 years - so I know what you mean and part of what you're looking for. a better quality of life.
I've found mine in a place with a closeness to nature, where there are no locking doorknobs, no crime, and really down to earth people. Keep looking darlin - your place is out there, and you'll find it. you at least have the good sense to know when you're in the wrong place for you. good luck.

If I were to move anywhere in the States, I would move to Hartford, Conn. because my son, Tomas, is there, it is close to both NYC and Boston, and because I loved the quaint village where Tomas is living.
However, I have often wanted to move to the Research Triangle area around Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh, NC since I went to Duke, love the climate there, etc.
I visited San Diego and Seattle at different times and would like to live in either place since they have a lot of character.
I am from St. Louis, and would recommend it or S. Missouri if you like the woods, lakes, etc.
I have been living in Puerto Rico for 22 years and would say never come here since the sharks would eat you up like a baby fish. (However, I am prejudiced since I have had terrible experiences with people here.)
Five years ago I might have said that you should visit PR for a vacation or to learn Spanish but not to work since the govt. messes everything up.
Notice that only talking about PR did I mention people. Really, I think living on the N. Pole, in Siberia, or in the Middle of the Sahara Desert would be fine if you were with fine people who loved and protected you.
So in sum, you could go to Denmark or the Sudan or Darfur and be better off than if you were in San Francisco or Chicago with bad people. Obviously I am saying make arrangements with family or friends first, then see where you should live but that is just the opinion of someone who has been through the deepest regions of hell lately because of what some people close to me have done to me.

Research the Kansas City area, good jobs, beautiful area and very genuine people. I moved here 16 years ago and don't plan on ever leaving. (several organic farms here also)

Northern Arizona, the smalltowns. Snowflake is cheap to live in and there is also like Heber-Overguard, Prescott, or if you want a bigger town maybe Flagstaff (a lot of hippies live there) or Payson.

California is a melting pot, so there is a lot of isolation. I know that from my own experiences. I still love California.
