I think the value in using Answers is for a different kind of question than one you can google. There are philosophical questions and personal relationship questions that elicit insights that may help someone in resolving a dilemma. Or there are people soliciting practical advice on everything from cleaning to child care to automotive repair. They want to see what real people have done to solve a particular problem or if people have had success using a particular product. Yes, there are questions for which the asker could easily have found an answer through google or yahoo or some other search engine. And there are kids trying to get someone else to do their homework (less now that it's summer so you only get the summer school kids). But many of the good questions here could not just be answered by googling them.

On the other hand, I agree with your assessment that many of the answers are fairly worthless. But not all. There are people that take the time and effort to give serious, helpful answers to worthwhile questions. I have learned many things since participating in this forum. If you look at the answers given by the people who are at the top of the leader board, you will see they are there not just because they are fanatic users of Answers but because they provide solid information that people appreciate.

So, I do think Answers provides a way of finding answers that complements the traditional search engines. However, like anything on the Internet, including your google results, you have to sift through to separate the valuable from the garbage.

One additional thought: In addition to the good stuff, there is the entertainment value provided by the stupid stuff. It's kind of like watching the early auditions on American Idol.

yahoo put points for answers and this make people to play
i think because of this , there are many people here, with crazy answers, and just they are here to playing with points
but maybe u can not find this in google
i think u'll find less junk answer in google, because just whose know the answer will click on Q
but me i am here because i am more safe with yahoo
i like Yahoo interface and some yahoo options
the nice connection between your profile here and another yahoo services, and junks Q and Answers is not important for me and of course it cannot be important for others
because when u ask a Q , it's true that u may find many funny and unreliable answers but u can find a person who answer u and help u
anyway both are good

have fun boys and girls

Some questions can be googled, and some questions can't.

Song lyrics can and I've wondered why they just don't google them but other things you need people with experience to answer.

And no not every answer is unreliable.
