instead of a bunch of bickering whiners? An imminent asteroid collisin? Alien invasion? Natural global destruction? isnt it time we became inhabitants of the planet Earth, instead of all these little factions, who cant get along with each other?

The one thing that pulls anyone together: DEATH.
Look at how people come together when popular leaders, entertainers etc...die. That's what it's going to take. Death is the one thing that none of us can get away from. It's the one thing that reminds us that we ALL are human. We're ALL going to die.
It's sad but even then someone will still not be involved but I guess it will be one step closer.
