Price, quality, how long they last when printed, shelf life, colour accuracy for example.

1. Price per page (cost of the cartridge divided by average page yield)
2. Genuine or not (I generally use genuine cartridges it just depends on the manufacturer, remanufacturerd are usually crap anyways)
3. Warranty (Will the manufacutrer, especially on 3rd party, warrant that it won't damage my printer)
4. Print Quality (On 3rd parties does the man. ensure that the print quality will be as good as the OEM cartridges)
5. Can't come up with a 5th.

Last year I bought an HP printer, copier, scanner. Several months ago I went to the store and fell over at the prices.
I called Inksell (1-800-255-0483) and talked to them. I found out that HP sells two of each cartridge--one is half full (5 ml) and the other is full (10 ml). Even with the $2.95 shipping, Inksell's prices are less than half what cartridges go for retail. Inksell also stands behind what they sell you.
You can also buy the ink and refill your own cartridges; but DO NOT do this by yourself--only if you have someone experienced to show you how--it is extremely messy.
