The United Nations is a collection of countries world-wide who come together to work out problems.
The Commonwealth is a British-led organisation of the old Empire nation, such as Australia, Canada, India, South Africa etc. Its very much an economic club who work out 'insider' deals with eachother

The Commonwealth of Nations, usually known as the Commonwealth, is an association of 53 independent sovereign states, almost all of which are former territories of the British
Queen Elizabeth II is head of 16 of the 53 countries. Britain has no political power over the counties.
The United Nations (UN) is an international organization that describes itself as a "global association of governments facilitating co-operation in international law, international security, economic development, and social equity." It was founded in 1945 at the signing of the United Nations Charter by 51 countries, replacing The League of Nations which was founded in 1919.

Commonewealth countries are mainly former British colonies (NOT USA though). There are 53 of them. Members of the commonwealth have High Commissions as opposed to Embassies in eachothers countries. They probably also have special rules regarding immigration, nationality and citizenship.
UN countries are members of the UN. There are 192 member states today.

Commonwealth countries are countries that have ties to England, either as colonies, or former colonies that have been liberated.
(The U.S. is not a commonwealth country, as it fought for indipendance, while Canada is since it just asked and received it without all that messy war business)
UN Countries are countries that have a seat in the United Nations.
