If you're a beginner on electric, I'd suggest a Fender Squier, or an Epiphone. Both are fine guitars which will prepare you for a major purchase of a Fender or Gibson.
Also, don't bother with using .009 gauge strings. They have no tone. Start with .010's, and if you can handle it, move to .011's - the sound is much better from fatter strings.

Trust me I have played guitar for years and I have tried out and bought many other guitars but I always seem to go back to playing my fender. Don't buy one of those Squire strats either they are a cheaper fender subdivision and they suck (playability and sound wise). If you like a thin fast neck then try out an Ibenez guitar. If you have deep pockets and want the best then go with a fender or a Gibson Les Paul.

I've had good luck with Schecters, it was the first real electric guitar I had (I had an old 70's Ibanez but it was in bad shape). But acoustic guitars are a lot different than electrics, you've got different scales to learn and the sound really doesn't sound the same on the 2. You're going to have to find a guitar that fits your electric style, not your acoustic style.

Fenders, Strats in particular, are bulletproof, reliable guitars. They sound great, too. However, the less-expensive Squires aren't that great because the hardware is cheap, so they go out of tune, have lame tone, etc. Epiphones are the same thing. My suggestion? Ibanez, dude. They're priced right, sound great, stay in tune, and there are a bunch to choose from. I had one once I and I totally regret selling it.
