Is it a fun and safe beach for little kids? Also, from the Bay Area, is it a curvy drive or a straight shot? For someone who gets carsick easily, how is it? Thx.

"bring a few snakes" -- yikes! i hope you meant "snacks"!

half moon bay is a sleepy cute town that is great for couples and families. the beach is usually overcast and chilly, so be sure to bring a wind breaker or sweater. you just never know with the weather. it is still very beautiful and there are lots of fun things to entertain yourself and your kids.

you do have to take 92 west to get there. if you are coming from the north you could take highway 1 through pacifica, but the road is sometimes closed due to repairs up there. so be sure to check beforehand about road conditions. 92 is windy, and it is going over the mountain, but it is not that bad. plus, since it is the only main route to get to half moon bay, there is usually quite a bit of traffic. hence, it is a slow ride so there is no time to even get the feeling of motion sickness.

have fun!

yeah it is fun for kids. there is a beach and pier where u r close to the water. During holidays like Halloween and thanksgiving there are these carnivals, just before entering half moon bay. The roads are a little curvy but trip is only about 30-45 min. if there is no big traffic.there is nice scenery on the way like christmas trees and farms. also there is this shop (on the way to half moon bay) where it has nice antique stuff that kids can look like.

Just bring maybe a few snakes for the kids on the way

Have fun!

I live near H.M.B., the beaches are cold. Be prepared, if you are going to the beach don't expect it to be as warm as it is in the inland areas. Like all beaches safety comes first and as a responsible parent one must watch their children because the ocean can seem to be very unpredictible. Right now we have a road closure on Highway 1 between Pacifica and H.M.B. so the next logical route to use is Highway 92. With the road closure the roads are very congested. Highway 92 is very windy for those who are not use to driving that route. Check traffic conditions by dialing 511. Best of luck!

Honey, I haven't been to "Half Moon Bay" in years.. But, back in the 80s, it was thee most "Magnificently Beeeeaaauuutiful" beach I think I have ever seen in my life!!! Its not just the beach thats so magnificent, its the whole town! And yes, its all up-curvy hills going there, one curvy, long hill. Unless,,there's another way there, that I dont know about.. You would never think they had such a Gorgeous place, hidden away, on the outskirts, of San Fransisco, but its there, in all its Hidden Beauty!!! In the "Fall-Time" they have pumpkin patches, everywhere!! And huge ones, too.. Plus with the "Green Nature" all around, those pumpkins! Its just an "Awesome" little town!! My ex-husband use to work there. And I had to make that drive, to go pick up the rent, bills money, every other weekend, and to spend time with him...The motel we rented was like an old "Victorian-Style" motel, with a loft, like they renovated it. It was so "Heavenly" going there, everytime I went. My very first adventure there was a nightmare, I got lost, and ended up in Oakland, asking for directions.. And what should have only been a 2 1/2 hour drive from Groveland, where we lived, up by "Yosemite", ended up being an 8 hour drive for me !! I was very young, and not familiar with the area. My ex-husband had the highway patrolmen out looking for me. I could laugh about it now. But, at that stop I made in Oakland,, that was scary!! I was not aware of where I had stopped for directions until I got out of my car... But, the liquor store clerk, gave me perfect directions, on how to get there. My ony concern was, getting back in my car, without getting "Mugged"!!Ha!! Ha!! I think they had sympathy, for me, and could see, I had small children in the car asleep...Anyway!! You have a "Wonderful time!!" And just take plenty of "Hefty-Bags" with you, for anyone who might have car sickness... My kids always got sick, anytime we traveled, but I always came prepared with 7-up, and saltines,, barf bags, you name it , I would buy it , so that we didn't have to stop too many times.. You have a "Wonderful Time" for me. I'm jealous!! Smile!!!

It's gorgeous. You can access a really pleasant beach at the Ritz Carlton, it's public, you just have to stop at a check point... There are tons of beautiful areas...
