Empirical evidence indicates that the people asking are none to smart and the questions tend to be far from good.
Your questions are great examples of this.

There are some people on this site that ask questions that are thought provoking, conversation starters or some that are relevant and important to that individual's life. Those that answer with sarcasm or insults tend to do so because that's who they are in real life. Zippo for communication skills, social skills or compassion. What may be serious for some is simply a joke for others.
It's a respect thing right, I mean there's people on this site asking other's ideas and opinions of how to kill an unwanted dog, sometimes the low lifes ask the questions as well.
Best thing to do is report them, get them off the site and make way for those with a little purer intent.

Because they can. The anonymity that the Internet offers allows some people to express themselves however they want without conequence. They can be a jerk and no one knows who they are. It's much like road rage, feeling safe and having the freedom to be an a$$hole from the confines of their car.
I don't believe I've been a downright jerk on the internet but I have said things that I probably wouldn't have the nerve to say in person.
EDIT: I do agree that often times the subject matter is not within someone's intellectual grasp and they kind of figure, "I can't answer the question, I'll just insult them for being a nerd instead."

Not all smart people ask good questions and the ones who respond in a negative way are seeing a reflection of themselves in the question that is ask so it upsets them and they don't have the intelligences to come up with a proper response so they so the only thing they know how to do they spit out insults

Because they see a logical question that challenges something they believe in (i.e. why gay marriage is wrong WITHOUT including references from the bible? A question I have asked, and all I got was religious bs) and rather than admit they don't have an answer, they get mad and decide to post dumb answers, or insult the asker beyond reasoning because they don't have a valid answer to the question you posed. Sometimes I wish there was a way to filter some of that nonsense out, but I could say the same for dumb questions that pose no real meaning to them. It's not a big deal to me anymore, I realize that people who answer like that are just mad that something is beyond their control and I move on.

The low lifes (lives?) you mention can look back to the elementary school playground memories as their finest hour. The insults you mention are neither clever nor creative, but offer some temporary satisfaction for these boneheads, at the expense of everyone's precious time.

Perhaps the low-life's feel like they're equal in some way with the smart people if the low-life's attack well-thought-out questions or treat the question as a platform for their own stupid answers.

Low-lives probably have little other options available to them. But I suspect you'll find a wide range of opinion about who are the smart people and who are the low-lives.

Because they only understand the small words, so of course, without the other words, the question makes no sense. Have you noticed that not one insult ever has all the words spelled correctly?

Sometimes, people like these "low-lives" find themselves unable to understand the language of your question, and, as a result, must resort to some sort of wise-*** response to make it look like they know what you're talking about.
