Michael Moore is a bit over the top in promoting himself at times, but Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 and Stupid White Men all had some interesting stuff.
Has his stuff changed anyones opinions in US or do people just write off comment/ideas by insulting/assaulting the person who makes them.
In particular, have they made right wing folk more moderate or changed views about guns or anything like that?

I think my question has been answered.
I agree regarding his sloppy appearance, although find it hard to understand this left - right antoagonism in the US. Its like a label with no meaning, and yet you guys spit it forth as if there is only two possible standpoints on any issue.
This is one of the disasters of two party politics.

For example, I believe that welfare should be paid to people, as long as they follow the rules of society and make an effort, they should not be living in a car. ie I believe the country should look after its people.
On the other hand, I believe that if people break the rules this changes, and they must be dealt with. In extreme cases, I believe in capital punishment.
I also believe I should be able to own a gun. (we have more restrictive rules in Australia).
So what am I, left or right. Can you see the sillyness of the tags?

Michael Moore is a terrorist.. Everything that comes from him is complete fiction. If you want to try to change my views, you might want to back up your contentions with facts. The far left are a bunch of madmen that instead of actually putting out ideas insist on bashing republicans without even bothering to look at the facts first. And the democratic party is now being lead by the far far left (Dean, Moore, etc.) that aren't in touch with middle America.

I am not a fan of Michael Moore's with the exception of Roger & Me. I had a Corporations professor that made us watch the movie to show us that Corporate decisions should not only be made based upon the $ that can be made or saved, but based upon the affects on the employees. And yes, he changed my mind to a certain extent.
I did not like Fahrenheit 9/11. There were good scenes in there, such as when he went back to Flint, Michigan and interviewed the people who were going to enlist because they couldn't find work (see Roger & Me). Michael says in there something along the lines "Isn't it ironic that the people that go and fight for our freedom and way of life are not the ones that benefit the most from it?" That was an excellent point. But then he goes to Capitol Hill and tries to interview COngressmen to see if their children are over there and gives teh statistic that only 1 member has a son there , Joe Biden. I have since done some research and found that that is not a true statitstic and that Joe Biden's son is a Jag officer.
I wish Michael Moore would have used true statistics in getting his points across. I think more people would respect his work instead of labelling him the Left Wing version of Ann Coulter.

I'm not a right winger, so my input here is strictly based on opinion. It is possible that Moore's films will change the way a few truly undecided people think, but mostly his work serves to galvanize both sides. Calling his work polemic would not be much of a stretch because of how easy it is to find parts that are more provocative and offensive than informative. He would most likely not deny this, based on the statements he's made to the press. That said, it's highly unlikely that your average Coulter-reading, Rush-nodding dittohead would latch on to anything in a Michael Moore movie and change their world view.
As person who adheres to neither the hard left nor hard right, I generally view his work as somewhat irritating and unfair, kind of like shooting fish in a barrel. It would be great if Michael Moore produced work that was more even-handed, but if he did, I doubt that it would generate the level of public interest/outrage and box office receipts needed for him to continue in his field.

His persona aside, Michael Moore has done a magnificient job of highlighting serious issues involved in the great political divide that troubles this great nation, even if his films fail to change anyone's views.
The answers posted so far illustrate this severe right-left (silly, convenient labels that hurt more than help, in my opinion) polarization, and the unmistakable fact that people on the right feel more passionately and are quick and eager to act, speak out, organize, and promote their views.

I believe there are people that are so insecure that they can't think for themselves. They need the media and people like Moore to make up there minds for them. It's quite a scary and pathetic situation. The Left counts on the fact that all information won't be disclosed and they can keep spinning stories in a twisted way which they feel will help them.

I watched about half of Bowling for Columbine and decided that he is full of sh*t. He is a pompous little dweeb who makes money by pandering to people too ignorant to think for themselves or investigate for themselves.
He has, in no way, changed how I feel about owning guns. I own more of them now than I did when I tried to sit through his little film. Granted, I sold my semi automatic, but it was a P.O.S. and it kept getting jammed. I got a revolver instead. Love it! But he has really only cemented my belief in my need to own guns. The more the left screams about taking them away, the more I want to own them.
And one of the first things Hitler did was disarm his subjects...

Regardless of whether he is right or not, his movies certainly raise interesting points. We should be overjoyed that the issues discussed in the movies become debate topics of national importance.
