Well, that depends on whether you want to learn slang or not. If you want to learn how to use the slang that young people use in our country, I would suggest watching television shows and movies with teenagers in them. If you want to learn more proper English, go for some older movies, dramas, not comedies with young people.

I highly recommend watching American TV shows. That will teach you a lot. You could also just watch some videos on YouTube, that's an easy and free way to start. Then again, it may be hard to know which videos feature American English.

When I was trying to learn Spanish, TV shows, movies, and radio helped a lot. It also helped to read books and newspapers. English should be the same. Total submersion is best.

Book knowledge is useful but you should practice with the people that speak english as their first language.
