Either something really funny to say or something to stop them calling again

Well, they are just trying to work for a living...so I try to be nice to them. I just let them talk till they take a breath then tell them that I'm not interested and to please take me off their list. You can also add your number to the do not call list...that has decreased all of my sales calls except from companies who have me on their list because I use their service.

You could either be polite and say no thank you or you could be rude and hang up on them. My favorite, however, is telling them you are busy and asking for their home number so you can call them back later in the evening to discuss it. (thank you Seinfeld!) But...and here's the important part....register your phone number with the National Do Not Call list. Once on there telemarketers are not allowed to phone you at all. They have a certain amount of time to get you active on the list but after that you can take action if they continue to call. Some exceptions include non profits. I signed up for this several months ago and haven't been bothered since. Here is the link.....

Take care and I hope you have an amazing (and call free) day!

Great question

They will always call unless you do something about it:

I say that I live in a listed building, that rules out all double glazing and conservatory sales men

...however
there is a web site that once you have registered on it NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO CALL OR ELSE THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW AND YOU CAN SUE THEM...

Once you have registered, after a few weeks you will not get called again, if they do the only thing you ever need to say is
"What is your name and Who do you work for"...

I guarentee they will hang up instantly...

My favorite way is to try and sell them something back, for example if a double glazing company calls ask them if they want to make massive savings on their phone bills. This really throws them.
Another way is to pretend that you are in a secret military instalation and how they got this number as it is restricted to high level military and politicians, and that you have to take their name, address and date of birth.
I actualy quite enjoy these calls to listen to the reactions

Start a conversation with them about something completley different. Ask them if they know how long you should roast the chicken for dinner, or what thay know about installing something on the computer. If they start to explaine just act really dumb and ask them to repeat it and act like you are writing it down very slowly. They always hang up and rarley call back

Sometimes I like to mess around, just listening in silence is good. When they realise they are getting no verbal feedback it really unnerves them. Sometimes I ask for a name and number so I can get back to them. They can never do this so I tell them I can't do business on that basis and put down the phone.

say "oh here we go again", then listen to them and laugh before you tell them "you will sue the company if they dont take your number off the list straight away". then laugh and when they get worried or try to sell again say in a hard voice "no seriously i can and will sue (name of the company) if you ring me again" and put the phone down.

trust me it shits them up big style

or say to the person male or female that they have a nice voice and it really turns you on ask them personal questions and pretend to masturbate loudly as they talk to you.

Remeber this is YOUR time on THEIR phone bill - to be whoever you want to be.... enjoy it :-)

My top ten

1)

"oh hello, where did you say you were calling from? .... oh really!.... I had a friend who worked there [made up name] - you ever heard of him? he was very good at selling on the phone, made loads of money at it..... how about you, how are you finding it there? how are your sales figures today/this week?....etc etc"

2)

In telesales time is money and every call is an effort to sound enthusiastic and up beat when in reality you're nursing a hangover, recovering from a breakup, just depressed about being in the telesales industry etc SO....Let them pitch you good and proper (don't sound TOO convinced or they'll smell a rat) and then when they get to the close just say either, "let me just get my credit card for you... " and leave the phone off the hook for 5, 10, 30 mins.... ouch!

or say right at the end, "sorry, it's been very interesting talking to you but I've got another call coming in" ....

3)

Introduce a small delay before answering any question or making a response .... about 5 seconds. It'll really confuse them.

4)

Practice having a speech impediment (no offence meant to people who have them for real). Make them squirm with awkwardness as you struggle courageously to answer every question in their cheesy sales pitch.

5)

If you are a woman, pretend to be a small child, but don't let on straight away.

6)

Repeat everything they say back to them until they hang up. If you laugh it won't annoy them so much, but if you carry on repeating everything back until they have to hang up you have won.

7)

If call is to your mobile (cell) phone make out you are driving then when they ask you a question or at any suitable point act like you are thinking hard and then scream," oh no!..." like you are having a crash and hang up as you slam other hand on your desk etc

8)

Tell them you are actually quite interested in the product but you don't like the manner of the call, get them to admit it's just a sale's call. Let them know they've got a sale with you (like you have lots of money anyway and almost feel sorry for the poor guy). Then ask them how their day's been and what it's really like working in a huge room full of cheesy sales reps all talking bulshit all day. Get him to open up safe in the knowledge he's got a sale in the bag. Ask him about his sales pitch (he's reading from) and all his sheets with responses to specific objections. When you're done tell him you are an angel and your job for today is to show him that he is worth more than this shitty job telling lies all day on the phone then hang up.

9)

Act like the perfect buyer but give your responses in a slightly muddled order. Saying things like "I'm going to Tenerife for two weeks.." when he actually asked what the weather's like in your area etc ..... eventually apologize and tell him you've got your 'buyer's pitch' sheets a bit mixed up. (as if you were reading your part just like he is!)

10)

Be friendly and chatty with them and like you might even buy.... then during any rapport start slipping in some really, really, really non PC jokes, political views, devient sexual annecdotes as if you are just bonding with innocent idle chit-chat.... see how much they are willing to go along with in the hope of a sale.

Ask them "what are you wearing" Then tell them what you are wearing, if they are still on the line you could tell them what you would like to see them wearing. This works weather it is a man or women calling you.
