My CPU fan of Dell 4700 dimension computer was crashed. Dell used small 4-pin connector to the mothervorad and the size of fan was uniq between 80 and 90 mm. The computer is just out of warrant. I got a 120 mm fan from radioshack but it is two wires with convertor to four (two black, red, yellow). My old one has 4 pin but much smaller with different wire colors. I want to use the old wire to the new fan so that the fan can be connected to the motherboad. Does any one know how to do it. Thanks a lot.

Color of the wire (I can tell you the black is ground) means nothing. You need a multimeter to measure the voltage coming to your old fan and identifiy which ones have power and which ones are ground.
Like someone else said... Dell has great prices on their replacement parts and will ship it fast. Don't damage the fan and return it to Radio Shack and get yoru money back. Then get the fan from dell... if they are backordered or a reason you can't get it, get the right fan on eBay.

If your DELL is still under warranty, call them. They will get you the replacement in two days. But it will take some time to discuss with them what you have done, and what you have learned.
You can buy a replacement part, but I do not see it at the DELL website. Write down your DELL service tag, then CALL.
Yes, I have had a failed CPU fan on a DELL before. ... bad luck, but it was under warranty
Try Newegg at http://www.newegg.com/
use the search feature and look for CPU FANS. This will take some time to find your special fan.

simple just use a spare molex plug and either cut the red wire and black wire and attach them to the red and black on the fan, and tape the ends , solder and tape is better, or just go to radio shack and get a plug with wires that fits the molex or even and extension with wires already, test it first with a voltage meter , make sure its 12v dc
it might be the yellow but i think its the red, another way is upgrade your motherboard, since dell really sucks because of their 6 cd recover cd set which cost $60+ dollars and is only good for dell and that model, it you changes your motherboard you would never get that problem:)

It would be easier just to drag your computer to a local computer store and have the sales person help you pick out the proper replacement fan. You also could call Dell and have them figure out which replacement fan you need to order.

why don't you just buy the right fan replacement?
Any local PC shop will carry them, or order one online.
