so heres my question. i live in the philippines. we have tons of pirated stuff here. and yes it is a crime with penalties and consiquences.
but how does it destroy the industry for some if we arent even a target market. i mean if you pirate their product or not it wont make a difference since your not even counted.
they dont spend any money to make their products available to you in the first place...

Prices are so obscene in the shops for DVDs and CDs that no-one can nor should they feel guilty for downloading or buying pirate copies. The fact is the industries (Music/Film) have been ripping us all off for years and suddenly the PC came and changed all that making the ball in OUR court and now they think they have a right to complain that WE are ripping THEM off...Ridiculous...- Is it a crime? The law thinks so, but I personally think it's just all of us getting our money back from being ripped off for years.

The problem with that philosophy is that you're assuming that everyone who pirates is not a target market, and that everyone who purchases or rents a pirated video or CD would NOT have purchased it in the first place.

Piracy does take money out of the industry. No doubt about that... but I don't believe it affects the various industries as much as the critics say... and I would imagine that in SOME cases, it might help the artists.

Example: In the music industry, MP3's have helped many bands gain recognition through a medium that may NOT have been available to them before. They may not get radio play, but might get downloaded instead... Musicians make very LITTLE off of a CD sale, and make a far HIGHER percentage off of people attending a live concert... which would make piracy of their music BETTER for them because of increased recognition.

In the Video market, DVD rentals and sales HAVE gone down because of piracy... and that makes people lose money through 'trickle-down' ... Video Stores do less business, which means they order fewer videos, which means less money for the distribution companies, which means less money for the Film companies, etc... but the percentage in THIS case is far smaller... and I'm pretty sure that Tom Cruise isn't suffering.

Actually, it does make a dent, albeit a small one, but enough where Bill Gates, recording artists, movie producers take a personal stand on the piracy. Now, go figure. I'm a writer and I wouldn't want any of my writings duplicated in pirated form. Heck, I need the money!

The only way to rid the place of movie and music pirates is to stop buying what they are selling. They'll stop pirating movies when they stop having a market. It's pretty hard to do, but there has to be a campaign aimed at consumers teaching them the wrongs of piracy.

Is it a crime? Yes, copyright laws define it as such.
Does it have victims? Yes, the owners of the right to distribution are losing money.
Does it also have good points? Sure. For example bands that no one ever heard of get exposure, become popular and make money as a result of the exposure.
Will it ever stop? Not unless the demand for it stops.

look here i m in india. here most people do not have enough money to buy an "original" unpirated CD, which can pay for about a fifty pirated cds of your choice. art in its true sense is meant to be free, for everyone to appreciate, why not give the poor a chance. i indulge in open piracy cuz the overpriced originals are just meant to give big corps a bigger bulging pocket.

Ya' understand, 13-14 years in the past i offered cassette tapes of a few of my renowned bands at a storage sale (could no longer locate the money for cd's). If some jackass is going to tell me i won't be able to sell any media I very own as very own sources and not psychological sources, then we could desire to continuously only piss off the full united states of america with the aid of outlawing the black industry and storage sales altogether. something which you very own which you probably did no longer create with the aid of hand or with the aid of use of technologies? it is no longer yours. Get a license to sell it. Your mind wasn't used interior the advent of this garment? Then i assume you won't be able to sell it. it is going to circulate that a techniques. paradoxically, it is what some fools pray for. Use as quickly as, throw away. No recycling or reusing. you may desire to save paying for and it will save piracy to a minimum. hi dystopian wilderness? No way. you won't be able to place believe in daily which you will no longer get shot. Why placed believe in that one extra man or woman could legitimately purchase psychological sources? the final case has extra undesirable outcomes than sturdy. Blame those that opened the Pandora's container on digital media and distribution. they are able to't end the technologies from going forward now, so it is too late. some issues have already been carried out which includes Sony and their rootkits, copyright risk-free practices, etc... what's next? Are you going to infringe on a man or woman's privateness digitally or in any different case to be sure that yet another excessively compulsive millionaire brat gets yet another million? Why is it that purely the super names in media are in touch? Who could harm it for the fledgling artist who performs and distributes in specific situations for unfastened and at others somewhat low value? i'm a musician myself- with the aid of myself. i could desire to care much less what human beings do with my media once I create it and make a sale. What I DO care approximately, is somebody unethically claiming they actually created or wrote pronounced content on the media. it is a distinctive challenge and is irrelevant from immediately's erroneous propositions. suggestions could desire to be unfastened. unfold the understanding.
