He's 9mos old and very active. I am worried about dehydration because kids can mask problems so well.

Until his first birthday, his diet should consist of nursing (or formula) with a *little* solids. In this case, you never have to worry; he will get plenty of water. If you are overfeeding him solids, there could be a problem--and dehydration is only part of it. Malnutrition is much more serious.

give pedialyte in his bottle if he won't take it out of a sippy cup. In courage a lot of fruit as their is water in them as well. Try unsweetened or sweet tea. Just be aware of what he is drinking and how much. Watch for signs of dehydration common in adults that will become evident. He will not be able to mask dehydration.

At that age a baby should have 26-32 oz of formula a day. If he drinks this amount you really won't have to worry about dehyradation because formula is 80% water. To entice him to use a sippy cup fill one with diluted apple juice, make sure it has a soft nipple and handles. My daughter thought it was a toy and was really happily surprised to discover that when she bit on the spout something happened. Hope that works for you. I know this may sound nasty, but you will know that your child is not getting enough by your child bowel movement. If it look like little rocks then your child is not getting enough water. And sometimes milk will make like that too, so try giving him water 20 mins after you have feed your child formula.
