It's an allen wrench. Usually comes with the disposal. If not, you can buy one very reasonably priced. Also check the reset button on the bottom of the disposal. Its red. Push it to see if it helps.

It's an allen wrench, but I don't recall the size. They come in the box with new disposals and should be left in a drawer for this reason. You've already got some good answers, and yes, check your electrical. If you have GFCI breakers near the sink, try pushing RESET as the receptacle below may be connected to one, although it shouldn't be. I'm amazed at some of the wiring in houses that I go into to do work. Unplug the disposal and plug something else into the same spot, like a radio or drill, and see if it works.

some electric motors have a "dead" spot,
if so, this might work.
get a rod that will reach to the bottom, with enough sticking out to grab, engage the rod on the rotor and push the rod to slightly move it.
TAKE THE ROD OUT!!! then try the disposal switch again. if not working, u may have to get the wrench, & NO, i don't the name either. good luck.

If its just "stuck" then you can use a broom handle, and wiggle the blades, and that will unfreeze the garbage disposal.
Personally, as a retired Waste Water Plant Operator, I hated those things!!!
People would put grease down them, then put vegetables and meats down them, and grind them up... The problem was, that they didnt run enough water through, and that stuff would come together in thier lines, in a ball that was harder than concrete to bust up!!! Boy, what a mess THAT stuff got to be...sheesh!
Plus, the floating grease and vegetables were a pain for the Plant Operators to get rid of...
I wish you well..

look and see if it is an allen wrench or a hex head nut , get an ext for a rachet and fit a socket or allen to fit, i think it will be counter clock wise, there should be a reset button on the bottom.
