Think of friendship as a row boat. Both of you should be rowing to get where you're going. But if you stop rowing and realize the boat is standing still, that means you were doing all the work.

If you have a friend and you are doing all the work, calling, writing, making plans and if you discontinue doing all those things and everything stops because you were the only one keeping the friendship going. It may not be a friendship worth keeping.

A friendship that is worth keeping is a friendship where you can rely on each other and trust each other. If you can't do either of those then you do not have a strong friendship.

When somebody is there to sooth, support, help you in your tough times without any benefits, then that is true friendship. A true friend is the one offers a shoulder to cry on in your difficult times, somebody to tell you it is OK you can pull on when you fall or about fall, somebody to take you where you are unable to reach. A true friend will always be with you, whether is good time or bad time. When you make a mistake, friend comes forward and correct you. Others may keep silent or encourage you to err. A true friend is the one who cares. Keep the friendship, if you find these characteristics in that person.

You should know it in your heart. If you're having doubts about your friendship with someone, it means there's some kind of fracture in your friendship and you can either choose to fix it or leave it. You should have the wisdom to know which option to choose.
