Why would you need to suggest any single role model for your children? Rather, use several role models for different traits that you'd like to develop, or point out in your child.

As an example, my kids are very aware of Terry Fox (if you don't know him, look him up...) for traits such as virtue, selflessness and determination.

The problem with modelling after a single role model is that rarely is anyone perfect... while JFK is a wonderful role model for Leadership, from a morals standpoint, he's a little suspect.

I am not sure that I would label anyone in this world today as a good role model. It seems in today's times," the best of the best", turn out to be, "the worst of the worst". I would probably go with teaching my children, the true value of virtue's and signs to look for to expose an impostor. Plus I would try harder than ever to live my life by the lessons I teach my children. Its not good to have too much trust in one person. You are setting yourself up for a big let down, because unfortunately all men and woman are only humans, and to "error is human"!.

Humans can never be the best role model today, tomorrow, and even yesterday. Humans are bound to commit mistakes through trial-and-error for continuous growth and evolution.

I would suggest a child to understand the Universal laws of the cosmic intelligence, which is not bound by time and space, ie. eternal. Also, teach a child to be responsible for all his own thoughts and actions.

All these laws of the universe exists from the beginning of time. It's always there, only awaiting for us to *discover*.
These laws are discovered (not invented) in the past by our Seers, Saints, Masters, Buddhas,... such as:
the law of cause-and-effectiveness (eg. karma, )
the law of affinity (likes attract likes),
"impermanence"(changing) as the reality of life,
.....and many more.

teachers are supposed to be role models.. because throughout a child's life those are the ones they spend time with the most.. so they pretty much affect children's minds the most.. if they build them wrong.. they'll grow up wrong. though for that reason you have to make sure those teachers are doing it right ( almost rear to find anymore) but yea.. that's what made me who i am today

Education is a child's best tool, so I would have to say their favorite teacher would be their best role model.

I agree with everyone that is saying the child's teacher. Kids can be influenced by so much, I think it is very important to emphasize the importance of an education. When parents do show them how important that is they will naturally draw to their teachers.

me, but i don't want to be a role model for your ungrateful kids.there is no better role model for your kids than you.why would you want them to emulate anyone else.how old is the kids.infants, toddlers,or teens all need different role models.and if you can't seem to want to be a role model for your own kids, then pick the ones you would feel comfortable with.and that won't make you look like the dweeb you are.

Definitely George W. Bush. I mean, he still has the intelligence level of a child, and look where he made it, he's the most important man in the country!

Definitely not an athelete. Politicians are evanescent. Perhaps a group such as police, firemen or coast guard who will be around doing worthwhile things all his life.
