Hi,

Actually, modern Singapore really has nothing to do with the movie.

Historically, Singapore was once a port of trade connecting Asia to the Western world. Materials from as far as North Asia were brought and traded in Singapore before moving westwards to the Carribean, Europe and America.

I don't remember the specific notation in Dead Man's Chest, but in Curse of the Black Pearl, Elizabeth fell into the sea and Jack rescues her. Upon getting her back onto the deck the two officers who were speaking to Jack attend Elizabeth and one announces that she's not breathing. Jack cuts off Elizabeth's corset and the officer declares that he'd never thought of doing that. Jack answers, "You've clearly never been to Singapore." This is a quip regarding the availability of prostitutes in Singapore at that time in history, suggesting that anyone who's been there is likely to consider cutting the corset off a woman's body.

haha..I was wondering about this question while I watched it too..

I've also heard it in some other movies too... seems like Singapore is an icon of "exoticness".

When I travelled half way across the globe and identified myself as Singaporean, they always asked, "Singapore is Taiwan, Thailand, or its a province in China?"

Somehow, we are similiar to Atlantis in the Myths....be proud about it....^___^

I've heard they are going to meet an Asian Pirate, played by Chow Yung Fat

He'll probably have a very unique Asian type vessel and we'll probably see some swashbuckling Martial Arts during fight scenes. Should be interesting.
