You can tube behind any boat that has enough power to pull you at a fun safe speed. And as far as the horse power goes it would just depend on the size of the pontoon boat.

If you want to be flying over the waves on your tube, I doubt that a pontoon boat can get up enough speed for that.
If you just want to float along at a leisurely pace, any boat can pull you, even a little old row boat.

you should have no problem tubing with a pontoon boat. I have a 24' with a 85 hp motor and we ski and tube with . you can't get as wiled with it as you can other boats put its still just as fun and maybe safer to. some friends of mine had a 18' with a 40 hp on it and they tubed and skied with it. so if I was you I would load her up and have some fun just take some sunscreen you'll need it.

how big of a boat? how heavy is the boat? boat loaded with your crew ? lots of variables involved. you don't need a v6 (good wakeboard boats have 8 cylinders)....I've only seen outboard pontoons boats. deck boats are like a pontoon but have the I/O or v drive configurations. Between 125-175HP seems to be the norm I see out on the lake. though I saw a triple decker 36' pontoon the other day screaming accross the water because it had twin 250HP pushing it.....thats power.

You can tube behind a canoe, you;ll just tube very slowly, the same can be said about tubing behind a pontoon boat, it'll be slow, but it can be done.

my fam. use to have a poontoon with 45 hp, and it pulled ski-ers fine, but it did not pull tubing as well. if you want to have a fun ride (for example, going outside of the wake tubing) you are probably going to need a 95+ hp engine on the boat. before my family got a speed-boat, our pontoon stalled and wouldnt start because 45 hp wasnt enough to pull a tuber. hope this helps.

Tubing takes less power and speed than water skiing.
