Majority of employers won't care what your grades were, and will focus far more on whether you graduated from a reputable and legit school.

Now that doesn't mean you can't use your good grades to your advantage, but in general, grades are meaningless. Simply making it through is sufficient.

Now the quality of the school definitely makes a difference. For example, suppose I have a candidate from Harvard, another from University of Iowa, and another from Okagen College, which one do you think I would tend to lean towards first? The Harvard grad!

1) Who hasn't heard of Harvard? We've all heard of it!
2) Who questions whether the education was top-notch? Nobody!
3) Have you even heard of Okagen College? Probably not, unless you're from that area.

Bottom-line, companies have employees from a multitude of schools, and if there's a candidate from a school nobody's ever heard of, the immediate reaction is to question what kind of education that person got. And the impression is a negative one, which is 1 strike against you.

When hiring I look at the degree, the school, and then grades. ANyone who went to the U of Phoenix or some other similar place are automatically tossed out. I want to see someone who's made it at a real school.

The other thing I'd lookk at is - do you show initiative and sound judgment. Do you head up an organization at school, for example, that would show initiative. Did you drop out and live in Amsterdam for a year, that might show bad judgment if you're wanting to be a neurosurgeon, but it wouldn't be a drawback if you want to go into a creative realm - marketing, film studio, etc.
