I am 32 weeks preneant, i took an ultrasound yesterday and it showed the umbilical cord around my babies neck, what are the chances or possibilites of him getting out of that situation before delivery date? Is it harmful to him at this stage, can he be choked at anytime from now until my due date? My 1st pregnancy, please don't scare me people.

Okay.

There is still a chance that the baby can get the cord from around his neck. But if not the good thing is that they know it already.

Right now it's not harmful because the baby doesn't have enough room to get the cord tight enough to choke himself. Knowing this already they will probably give you another ultrasound before labor to see if the cord is till there.Chances are they won't do a vaginal delivery. It's risky in that situation so you will probably end up getting a c-section.

No matter how bad you think a c-section is think about pushing for 3 hours only to get a c-section to find out the cord was around his neck and he could have been strangled. That happened to me.

Don't be scared and definitely talk to your OB. Tell him your fears and they should try to assure you that they will do everything to make sure you deliver a live, healthy baby.

Good Luck and God Bless!!

Well if the doctors thought it was a serious problem, they would have done an emergency c-section, but obviously your baby must not be in distress. Have the scheduled you for repeat sonos and/or non-stress tests? It is potentially serious so they should be monitoring the situation. The cord can unwrap since the baby still has room to do all sorts of tricks in there. The baby isn't breathing air yet, so if the cord remains around the neck and the baby stays active and unharmed, then as soon as delivery happens they will cut the cord and possibly provide oxygen.

My oldest (14 now) had the cord around her neck when she was born and her head was a tiny bit greyish, but she's one of the smartest kids around, so no harm done.

Babies twist and turn in there all the time and do sometimes get tied up in their cord. Since your baby's cord is around his neck, they will probably want to watch you closely. If you don't notice baby moving each day, be sure to do kick counts! Drink a big glas of OJ and lay down for a bit and count the baby's movements for about an hour. If you don't feel baby moving, that's BAD and you need to call your caregiver right away.

A lot of babies are born with the cord around their neck. If it's long enough, they can be born vaginally and the doc just has you stop pushing after delivering the head so he can unwind the cord.

If you go into labor, odds are they might want to do another u/s to check baby's positon and see if the cord is still around his neck. Depending on if they think the cord is long enough, and on how well baby seems to be tolerating labor, they might want to do a c/s. If baby's heartrate is dipping too low in labor, then baby may not be getting enough oxygen and under too much stress. Trust your caregiver to monitor you closely in labor and make the decision about if you can deliver vaginally or if it would be safer to have a c/s.

Your baby has probably already moved. He can't be choked, because he isn't breathing. As long as the cord is not constricted he is fine for the moment.

Many babies are born with their cord wrapped around their neck once or twice. Most of the time it is not that big a deal. Your care provider will simply unwrap it from the baby's neck on the way out.

I am not trying to scare you but this is a serious situation. However you have a few more weeks for this situation to correct itself. If your DR. is really concerned he will schedule a c-section and remove the baby safely. Also he may just let you deliver naturally and just remove it as he is delivered. Either way you need to follow very closely your DR.'s advice and not anyone on this site. In all honesty yes it could be harmful. Are you hearing heart sounds and is there movement? If the movement of your child slows or ceases get to the hospital immediately and contact your DR.

It is dangerous, your baby could choke. Just make sure that you monitor your fetal kick counts everyday, if you notice a drop in kicks, call your doctor asap. Hopefully the baby will move around, and the cord will unravel

alot of babies are born with the cord around their necks..if your doctor didnt see it as being a serious situation then you should be ok...you can always set up either a c-section or to be induced around 36 weeks( thats considered full term) my daughters cord was wrapped around her neck(2 times) for 2 months and was delivered fine but she was premature at 35 weeks

It depends, what position is the baby in, if the baby is head down then there is a chance that it could get tighter. Your Dr should have also told you do not left you arms above your head, and no stretching because that could make it tighter, My son was the same way.
