'99 Saturn SL1- just replaced the battery last year. Car wouldn't start for the first time yesterday, jumped it, tried to charge the battery and it wouldn't charge. Now won't jump either.

quick it does not hold a charge because the alternator is draining it you should have the alternator rebuilt or get a new one it would be less of a headache trust me I know I had the same problem with my car

Remove the battery from the car and try to charge it. The battery may be bad. If it still won't take a charge, replace it. Measure the voltage when car is running. If it is not really close to 12.8, replace the alternator. The alternator has the voltage regulator in it and that's usually what gives you troubles. Your voltage should be between 12.5 and 13.5 VDC. It depends on how much draw is on the battery. If the car is running when the alternator goes bad, it will probably last a few hours.

The car should still jump start if the battery or alternator is bad. I would look at the battery cables, starter, fuses, etc.

a new battery will only last about a day long enough for you to drive it to a shop to get fixed ive personally had to do it
