MOST DEFINITELY. Not only the "poor" are suffering anymore. People in mid-class families are also now having a rough go at it. It is widespread. I was not raised even close to poor - it was closer to upper-middle and the last 10-15 years have been hell and it's getting worse (with everyone working hard too)

How can we afford to save the poor in America when our government thinks it's more important to give foreign aid to countries that won't even help themselves. Africa is a good example. Famine, decease, unemployment and at war constantly. This isn't recent news. Africa has been in this state very since the 1920's. All they are looking for is a steady hand out from the American taxpayer. As far as helping the poor in the USA, whatever money is left is always put into programs that never work. Look at New Orleans for example. A corrupt city government feasted the treasury and then blamed the Federal Government for their shortcomings. New Orleans has been the greatest single tax burden to the United States in it's history. Most people dont' work, don't want to work, and have been draining the national unemployment pool for over 100 years. So you tell me, how do the responsible taxpayers of America come up with enough money to help those who truely need help?

Depends on what you mean by 'save'? I think we have a duty as a civilized wealthy nation to help keep out poor from living underneath bridges. I think that is the difference between us and a third world country that does not take care of its poor.

It depends on which poor you are talking about. I don't believe any U.S. veteran should ever be homeless. Someone brave enough to serve their country deserves better. I don't believe any child who was forced to live in a foster home because of abuse or neglect and is thrown on the streets at 18 years old should be forced into a life of poverty because of his/her birth circumstances. I don't believe anyone who is poor through no fault of their own should ever have to suffer in a perpetual state of poverty. The rest made their situation.

I do. I don't think we do enough for our own people. But we can send Millions & Billions of dollars to other countries to aid them. And then they turn around and use there weapons against us. I also get tired of seeing the commercials that want you to sponsor a child in a foriegn country. What about sponsoring kids in the USA.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

What would happen if:

A philosopher walked by? He'd quote the above and walk away, the man would starve.

A Republican walked by? He' tell the man to learn to fish, but not give him a fishing pole.

A Democrat walked by? He'd take a fish from someone else and give it to the man and say "Vote for me, aren't I wonderful."

A bureaucrat walked by? He’d set up a program to give the man a fish every day. He’d run the program and take 5 fish per day for himself.

A poor person will always be poor until he or she gets off her butt and learns a trade.

The saving of hundreds of billions of dollars in transfer payments would eliminate the taxes for any family earning under $100,000 per year.

i think the poor in the usa should be our first priority. why do we care about the poor in other nations, and leave our poor hanging out to dry? why do our leaders care so much about healthcare in other nations, and not their very own? the poor here need to get to the polls, vote down constituents who vote to send aid to other nations, and telll the poor here to find a way to pay for their healthcare. if you can care for other nations, why can't you care for your very own poor? it's because they don't vote. read, vote. get the ones out of office who send aid elsewhere, and leave us without any healthcare.

Who is at fault for their condition.
Some choose their life to be that way, it is their freedom, Others who want help can find it. You should volunteer at a shelter to see what I mean
