The altenator is used to continually recharge your vehicles battery. If your altenator is bad you will lose all electric power once the battery is drained. Signs of it beginning to go bad are usually dimming lights and other electric components showing signs of low power supply. Those signs also could just mean your battery is bad so check that first. Also check the connections to your battery and make sure they arn't corroded or loose. Hope this helps.

Your car probably won't start but it might until your battery goes dead. Once your battery is dead your alternator won't charge anything and your car will run like crap if you do any thing like turn on the headlights. The best thing to do is go to an auto parts store and have it and your battery tested. Fix it yourself and save about 200 bucks. Its only 2 to 4 bolts and a belt.

That sounds more like you have lose connection or a short somewhere. If your alt. is bad you will lose power altogether eventually. Everything will go dead not just blink and get dim and then return to normal.

When the alternator goes out, your car will break down and nothing will work, not even your emergency lights. Get it replaced as ASAP!

Hi
you can take your vehicle (if possible) to an O Reileys, or other major parts supplier and they will test it for you, usually for free.
A test you can do at home is to start the car, and then disconnect the battery, if the car dies your alternater is not chargeing. This is not the safest way to test your alternater so do so at your own risk.
hope this helps

you can check your alternator yourself if you can see the back of it (opposite of the belt ) there will be a round piece dead center if you feel it is safe enough crank your vehicle and touch this with a screwdrever if it is charging it will act like a magnet and stick.
