Just wondering why people who have no connections with Jamaica (family friends etc) have started to talk in Jamaican accents? I notice its certain "types" of people i.e. chavs etc. I have a half Jamaican girlfriend and she is just as annoyed about this as I am!

For the same reason why some people who've never been to England adopt an English accent...they think it's cool. Or perhaps they've been out of their countries and now they just talk weird or they've just come up with their own strange way of speaking. I've been watching the Asian MTV and Channel V and some of the hosts just sound ridiculous. Insecurity perhaps...thinking if they sound like a particular group, they'll sound better when in fact, the opposite is true

Lot's of people vacation in the Carri bean/West Indies....listen to the music....adopt some of the relaxed culture. It's the progression of things. I watch a lot of British TV and I find myself saying "British" things in my everyday life. Not on purpose but it just sometimes comes out, Love. :-)

my guess is the people find it intriguing to be from exotic places, and they think it's cute because they want to be different, but it's annoying especially when they sound nothing like they think they do
